I experienced burning sensations in both calves, last March. This burning ‘decided to move up from the calves to the inside of my thighs. Speaking to my doctor I was referred from specialist to specialist, with no success. Out of sheer frustration, I paid to see a neurologist. He then referred me for a MRI scan, lumbar puncture, chest x-ray and blood tests. Having to wait over 4 months for the results, i was finally informed that there was ‘nothing wrong with me’ I explained to the consultant-who was lacking in the old bed side manner-that for the last 7 months I have been unable to sit down for over 15mins because of the discomfort to my legs. He prescibed low dosage of Gabepentin. At present I have increased the dosage but the discomfort has know changed from a burning sensation to pins and needles or hypersenitivity to the texture of clothing. This is only brought about when I sit down. For over a year I have been on a roller coaster of emotions and hope this site will offer me some comfort. Alun. S.Wales

I hope you do get some comfort from this site – I certainly do. I would love a support group near me – it is just so helpful to know there are others who understand what you are feeling – sometimes I feel even I dont believe myself that I am experiencing these symptoms – you couldnt make it up could you.
Here is to a cure soon.

I am very frightened that this small fibre neuropathy will get worse and prevent me from working. It seems to come in stages and stress / back pain makes it worse or maybe even brings it on. Has anyone else had severe pain in the scalp so severe you think your head is blowing up?

i have suffered this horrible illness for 3 years, i have been backwards and forwards to hospital after hospital, doctor after doctor specialist after specialist untill finally i was diagnosed with cervical myelopathy, i am now waiting for a operation to remove discs from my neck and replace with a titanium cage, this operation will not repair the damage already made to me, but should prevent it getting any worse, it started with funny sensations in my feet then i had a fall i broke my ankle then within a couple of weeks of this incident i awoke in the night with terrible pins and needles down my arms and legs, then the burning started then the nunbness, the numbness is now in my feet hands and from below my knees to my abdomon, my balance is terrible i often think people do not believe me because i look ok untill i start to walk i am scared to o out any where on my own as i do not know the next time i will fall over, then i cant get back up, most of the time i just cry.

Hi,I am thinking this sounds very familer to me although I am not sure whether I have this type of Neuropathy although my toes won’t move my feet and legs are very painful and walking is very difficult, I cannot stand and talk to anyone as I end up falling down. I also have one bone in my right leg which is now misplaced and also very painful. I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma 30 years ago which I had Chemo for and am now regarded as being in remission although I have cells which can activate again at any time. I was told then that I had Neuropathy but I have never been given any information or medication yet I am in contant pain and burning feet.I also have a bruise on my big toe which has been there for years so don’t know what this is. Buying shoes is a nightmare as any shoes or slippers hurt and my feet and legs hurt 24 hours a day, it never goes away.Victoria T.

Hi My name is michael, I am 57 years old, I have diabeties 2,I do not take insulin, only tablets.I have been diagnosed now since Jan’06 I have neuropathy ( P.N )in my feet and hands, painful pins and needles all the time none stop driving me mad. I am as of this week taking a new tablet called Lyrica, Please,I hope this one works, as I have tried so many other anti-depresents.
I find it so difficult to walk too far, my feet get so sore and hot, feels as though I am walking on hot sharp stones, but to look at my feet you would see nothing wrong.
It feels as though I am wearing socks even when i’m not, If i wear closed in shoes it is ten times worse, bare feet in sandles is by far the best but still painful.4 months ago I had a total Knee replacement, my knee is still very swolen and painful. They say that if I did not suffer from P.N. I would have made a much better recovory sooner.
I have been off sick from my work now for well over a year,Will I ever walk without this constant pain and return to work, I work as a Hospital Porter.

  8. Allyson Kaufmann says:

I have experienced this pain now for many years but the last two very severely. I find the use of Lidocaine patches exceedingly helpful (they are anaesthetic patches) but they need to be prescribed by a Pain Clinic. My feet also feel so much better during the day. Hope this helps.
