Here are the last 2 issue of Relay, the journal of the Neuropathy Trust.  Sincere apologies to anyone who has been unable to download them until now. We’ve been experiencing a few IT problems, which have now thankfully been resolved. You will require Adobe PDF reader to open these files. It is a fee software programme that’s installed on most computers. If you do not have it a copy can be downloaded via adobe.com. Please note that these downloads are only available to subscribing members, thank you.

The Patron of the Neuropathy Trust, Sir Norman Wisdom, passed away last night at the age of 95.

Sir Norman was a great support to the Neuropathy Trust, particularly in it’s formative years. In a statement, Andrew Keen (Chief Executive of the Neuropathy Trust) said ‘I’ll never forget the day that I checked my answer-phone and heard Norman’s voice offering to help out. He very kindly agreed to meet up with us at Carden Park in Wrexham and we presented him with a gift that one of our members, John Witt, had produced to mark this special occasion. I was stood alone with him on the lawn at the back of the hotel and I asked him if he would do me the honour of singing a few bars of his song ‘Don’t laugh at me ’cause I’m a fool’. Needless to say he not only obliged but , to my delight, he sang the full version. Within minutes he had a full and captive audience and was doing what Norman does best – entertaining and bringing a smile to people’s faces. I also remember him asking me what was wrong with me – when I said that I have a neurological disorder called peripheral neuropathy he said ‘petitinal netotony’ and started doing his silly walk and tripping act – the best impression of bilateral drop foot that I have seen from a non-sufferer. Norman, however, was no stranger to neuropathy and neuropathic pain. He had in fact damaged his brachial plexus after falling off a high-wire and, as a result , was able to relate first-hand to what it’s like to live with this condition, thus providing worthy justification (as if any were needed) as to why he was more than willing to lend his support to our cause.’

Sir Norman will be sorely missed by everyone here at the Neuropathy Trust but we shall remain forever grateful, not to mention highly privileged to say that he was our Patron.

We would like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere condolences to Sir Norman’s family at this extremely difficult time.
